This qualification provides a trade outcome in carpentry, covering work in residential and commercial applications.

This is a trade qualification for carpenters in residential and commercial workplaces. It includes setting out, manufacturing, constructing, assembling, installing and repairing products made using timber and non-timber materials.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements to get into this course are as below:

  • Students must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Students must have successfully completed CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry.
  • have an IELTS* score of 6.0 (test results must be no more than 2 years old). English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
  • educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
  • successful completion of an English Placement Test at IELTS level 6.0.

*Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. Students are required to provide their results so that it can be confirmed they are equivalent to IELTS 6.0.

  • Students are required to participate in a course entry interview to assess:
    • Suitability for the course.
    • Individual learning and support needs.
  • During the course entry interview, students will be assessed to determine their ability to use digital technologies required for the course.

Course Duration

This qualification will be delivered over 52 weeks, including 40 weeks of training and assessment spread over 4 terms of 10 weeks each and 12 weeks of holidays.

Digital Literacy

All student enrolling in this course is expected to have basic computer skills including use of internet, email and word processor.

Placement

Students are required to complete 160 hours of work placement as part of the qualification. Students will commence their work placement in term 4.

Delivery Approach

The qualification is delivered over 52 weeks comprising of:
• four (4) terms of 10 weeks each (40 weeks total)
• holiday breaks amounting to 12 weeks (as specified in the timetable).

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer

Prior to the enrolment and at enrolment, students are made aware of the availability of Credit Transfer (CT) and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
• Students are required to apply for CT of any relevant units and may also apply for RPL prior to course commencement.
• Students must show evidence that can be verified such as a statement of results for credit transfer to be granted.
